Workers are not the only people who face risks to their health and safety. Food can be adulterated, medicines can be produced from toxic raw materials and buses can be unfit to be driven. Safety and Rights is therefore working to improve the law and regulation of public safety issues so that consumers and passengers do not face unnecessary risks.
We assess the adequacy of the law intended to safeguard members of the public and consider whether those government bodies that have been set up to enforce the law are properly carrying out their functions. Where there are deficiencies and the government is not willing to take relevant action, we file public interest cases before the High court seeking improvements.
