The Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh has developed a fund for the welfare of workers under Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Act, 2006. If any worker is injured or died at workplace accident, such injured worker and dependents of deceased worker get welfare fund from the Government. Besides education fund for children, maternity fund, emergency treatment fund and incurable disease treatment fund is given to injured workers. On the basis of the nature of injury and enquiring accuracy of accident of the worker, the authorized board approves fund and hands over account payee cheque to injured worker. SRS co-operates the injured workers to apply in the prescribed authority. Khosh Mahmud Akanda (construction worker), Md. Akter (day labourer), Md. Nazrul Islam (tannery worker), Md. Hafizur Rahman (tannery worker), Azanur Rahman (stone crushing), Rabin Badsha (stone crushing), Tahazul Islam (stone crushing), Bulbul Hossain (stone crushing), Noor Islam (stone crushing), Ayub Ali (stone crushing), Bulu Hossain (stone crushing), Shariful Islam (stone crushing) are injured workers who have got financial assistance from the fund. They were injured in different ways by workplace accidents.
From the beginning, SRS helped workers for getting financial assistance from BLWF. In 2017, 12 injured workers got money from Bangladesh Labour Welfare foundation. We have helped 18 workers to apply in BLWF in this year. They are very glad to get money. “I don’t have any idea about labour welfare fund. SRS informed and helped me to apply for this. After a long time I received a check of BDT 50,000/- on 24 September 2017. Without help of SRS I didn’t get any money from BLWF also I have a case which is pending before 1st Labour Court Dhaka. I am very pleased on SRS’s activity”, Khosh Mahmud says.

Md. Hafizur Rahman receives checque in amount at Tk. 40,000/- dated on 26.11.2017, Azanur Rahman, Rabin Badsha, Tahazul Islam, Bulbul Hossain, Noor Islam, Ayub Ali, Bulu Hossain, Shariful Islam everybody receives checque in amount at Tk. 40,000/- dated on 28.11.2017. Totally 12 injured workers have received Tk. 500,000/-. They are very glad to get labour welfare fund. They have spent some money for their treatment and some money for business. They thanked SRS and said SRS helped to realize their labour welfare fund.
