Mainuddi Sagar entered the workplace as a teenager to alleviate the financial crisis of family. After the death of his father, he was the only earning member in the family of an elderly mother and two younger brother and sister. He joined pipe fitting work as a teenager to put a smile on everyone’s face. But sadly, on December 20, 2012, he was electrocuted while working on gas pipe fittings on the third floor of a building under construction at Square Fit Housing in Pallabi and died after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
After the news of Mainuddin’s death was published in the newspaper, the SRS inquired about the accident and contacted the family of the deceased worker. The family of the Mainuddin was not aware of his legal rights. The SRS later filed a case in the Labor Court seeking compensation for the family of the deceased worker Mainuddin.
The court ruled in favor of Mainuddi’s family after a six-year trial. In the end, the Square Fit Housing Authority paid BDT 100000/- as compensation to the learned labor court. Mainuddi’s mother Majuda Begum accepted a cheque of BDT 100000/- from learned 1st Labor Court Dhaka on January 12, 2020.
Mainuddi’s elder sister said ‘My mother just cried after my younger brother Mainuddi died, My husband and my uncle contacted the owner many times but they did not help with us. She also said, without SRS’s assistance we cannot get this money. We have deposited BDT 100000/- taka in the mother’s name in the bank. A few days ago we spent 20,000 taka for my mother’s treatment. She also said that they will never forget this contribution of SRS and thanked SRS from core of their heart.Though the amount is very small,SRS hope that the dependents of Mainuddi Sagor’s will be able to regain their financial solvency and they will live a peaceful and happy life in future.
