Background: “When my first menstrual cycle was start then I was only 12 years old and I was separated from my family member and spent my time lonely in a little house called ‘Cara Ghor’’ Said Mst Tajnur begum. Like Tajnurb8 begum a lot of female had their bad experience in the time of their first menstrual cycle time. Though the situation is changed but still now many adolescent girls & female in low-income and middle-income countries lack appropriate facilities and support in different situation to manage menstruation. There are many women who face the challenge of dealing with eight-hour workdays while menstruating. In Bangladesh, around 52 percent of the female population are of reproductive age and are therefore experiencing monthly periods. Many unprivileged, lower- and middle-class girls and women could not use sanitary pad due to high cost issue. Due to lack of knowledge about menstrual hygiene every year a huge number of women faces different types of disease. Considering the importance of that issues SRS and PERCEIVE jointly organizes a day long workshop to produce Suchita reusable, cost effective & environment friendly sanitary pad.
Objective of the session: To enhance the knowledge about menstruation hygiene management & prepare as well as marketing reusable sanitary pad.
No. of participants attend: Ten female workers who are capable in sewing
About the session: At the very beginning of the session SRS & PERCEIVE introduced with the participant. The participant also introduces them. Very firstly of the workshop the entire participant fills up a pre evaluation form about their knowledge in menstruation and how they manage this situation. Fatiha Polin ED of PERCEIVE welcomed all the participant and start the workshop. By showing a Slide presentation she cleared the primary concept about menstruation. The main message of the presentation was:
- Project detail about Suchita.
- What are the problems faces the female during their menstrual period.
- Why female use reusable sanitary pad?
- Element of prepare a reusable sanitary pad.
- How to make this sanitary pad.
- Process of marketing this sanitary pad.
After getting the full instruction the participant starts the process of making sanitary pad. Every participant participates in every stage of making this sanitary pad with a jolly mind. They fill so happy to learn this new acitivity. Each participant successfully makes this sanitary pad individually. They fill very happy to make this pad
Key findings:
- The participants said, this workshop will be very helpful for them because now they prepare this hygienic, environment friendly sanitary pad for their personal use at their home with very low cost.
- The participants expressed their interest to use this pad because they would be use one packet of three sanitary pads for one year long.
- They also supply this pad to their family members, relative, neighbor.
- Besides their personal use they also earn money by selling this product.
- From now they will encourage others female about menstrual hygiene.
- The participants said after making this pad they will sell this product with their flexible sell point like-Garments factory, Local shop, School, Tailoring training center, different NGO etc.
As all the participants are expert in tailoring, they show their keen interest to earn money from making this sanitary pad. So it will create a new source of earning for our female workers. SRS and PERCEIVE also expect this workshop learning would be help to reach a hygienic low-cost sanitary pad to the women all over the country. SRS & PERCEIVE provides certificate the entire participant of the workshop. ED of SRS end the workshop by giving thanks all the participants.
